The fast-flowing rivers in the Béarn (Gaves) form an extensive water network (4,500 km) of which the majority is ranked as 1st category fishing.
The presence of Atlantic salmon, sea trout and wild brown trout is the main trigger of sport fishing in the area. They also fish shad, pike, largemouth bass, carp and perch.
The Gave d’Oloron (7km from the campsite) is the longest “salmon river” in France. The annual world salmon fishing championship takes place in Navarrenx. This is done in two rounds: the first round takes place in May, the second part in July.
Fishing licences are available at the fishing shop in Salies de Béarn, the price is around € 30 for 7 days.
